ALUNNI ART

Tony Alunni is an intuitive abstract artist and an internationally published photographer
who lives and works in Santa Clarita, California. Originally from Illinois, Alunni
demonstrated his creative talent at an early age and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree
in Art from Northern Illinois University.

His paintings showcase vibrant colors that stimulate emotion.
His photography captures moments in time from his international travel assignments
as well as his concert assignments.

Alunni’s paintings and photography have been shown in exhibitions in Los Angeles,
including “Splattered Beauty” at Orlando Gallery and “Rock Shots” at NoHo Gallery LA.
His artwork and photography can be found on home decor products, accessories,
packaging and more which are sold through multiple online stores including Amazon,
MarthaStewart.com and BHG.com (Better Homes and Gardens).

My Story

I love to create!!!

My mind is always in a state of create!

Music and art play a huge roll in my life as I write and record songs along with painting and drawing and making a mess. I have worked behind the scenes in television and film, but creating visually has been a mainstay.

I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago in Illinois. For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be a musician and an artist. At five years old, I fell in love with the process of creating by making a mess. My kindergarten class learned how to etch a design on a styrofoam cup, then roll it on an ink pad, then transfer the design onto paper. I thought it was the coolest thing! From that moment forward, I knew I wanted to explore creatively.

Another moment occurred for me at five years old was when my family took a road trip across the country that lead us down the coast of California. I fell in love with Los Angeles and knew that I wanted to move there.

By junior high, I knew that I wanted to major in art in college. The summer after my junior year in high school, I started a band with my best friends and we played all the Chicago rock clubs for over a decade. During my senior year of high school, I had three art classes classes in a row out of six total classes.

After high school, I attended William Rainey Harper College and Northern Illinois University with an emphasis in art. I attended classes during the week and practiced or played shows with my band nights and weekends.

After graduating college, I worked as a picture framer and continued to play the club scene with my rock band. Eventually, I worked freelance as a graphic artist, a web designer, and a concert and travel photographer.

In 1998, I finally made the move to Los Angeles and decided to pursue a career in film and television. I took a few classes at UCLA and did a couple of internships. I worked on a lot of independent features and television shows, but most of my career was spent in documentary television in various rolls from production management to producing. The only time that I could paint was in between television projects.

In 2008, I met Tina on eHarmony.com. We did everything “out of order”. We bought a house nine months after we met, then we went on a honeymoon, then we got pregnant, then we got married. Exactly as it was meant to be!

Tina is the inspiration for me to share my artwork with the world. You would never have known that I was an artist before I met Tina. I had work hidden in closets and drawers and under the bed, but Tina made me display my work on a rotating basis to change up on the walls.

In 2011, Tina was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer less than one week before our first and only child was born. Before the diagnosis, Tina had proposed a plan whereby she would work in order to give me an opportunity to create. Everything was put on hold as we ran around to doctors for opinions, surgeries and treatments. Tina survived 39 months after diagnosis.

After Tina’s passing, priorities, time and perspective changed for me and I decided that I needed to pursue my creative side full-time.

I have always been positive and optimistic and prefer to share that with the world!

About My Work

I like to work fast and make a mess.

My go to medium is acrylic applied to anything but canvas, but there are some exceptions.

My work is a representation of my experiences, emotions and perspective captured in the moment.

I love color and texture and like to incorporate or upcycle objects into my art.

If something, not someone, gets in my way, it may end up in my work.

Sometimes words get in my way and end up in my work.

I continue to love making messes that stimulate visually.
